I know it doesn't seem like it, but it's about time to start tillin your gardens and gettin em' ready for the early plantings. Show us what you got or lets discuss what you plan on doing; Prep, Fertilizer, seeds, plants starts, etc.

In just a little less than a month from now I will start setting out my cool season veggies like red potatoes, broccoli, carrots, onions and few other things.
I'm going at it a little different this year and planting in stages instead of all at once. Last year everything (that didn't die from rain) came in all at the same time and got a little overwhelming.

Several years ago I had loads of top soil trucked in and boxed in with rail road ties. Dawn used to really enjoy working in the garden, I just prepped it and helped her plant it and weed it . Over the years it became more like work than fun, so now we just plant a few tomato plants, squash , cucumbers and peppers.
Now on Saturday mornings when I get off the midnight shift I stop by the town square on my way home and pick up whatever we want from the locally grown/owned farmers market.
Me helping her weed the garden and almost getting bit by a rattlesnake had alot to do with me saying "Heck with this!!!"

Anybody tried that hay bale gardenin stuff? I read up on it and it just seemed like a lot more work and money than just breakin the tiller out and turnin the dirt over.

I admit to being unprepared. Should have had snow pea seed to spread this morning in a tilled garden space.

As soon as the mud dries up some, we'll get to tillin'. Gonna try some potatoes in baskets with hay. Gonna try and toss a net around the fig tree soon, to try and keep the pests off it.
Anyone know anybody selling sugar cane?

I had some red potatoes sprouting eyes, so I'm taking a chance, planted all of them, didn't really prep the soil, just took the shovel, turned a bit, nope, I didn't even make a hill.......... if they make, wonderful, if they don't, I was gonna toss them anyway...............

I did the same thing with some russets. They'd just end up in the compost bin anyway.
