I have been a busy little bee last fall, we probably have 2 winters worth of firewood left and a ton of canned food from last years garden! I got 2 lp tanks full and about 6 gallons of kerosene ready to go! I think we would be okay for a few days with no power!

Boy if this one is a bust there's going to be some serious egg on some faces somewhere. Here's what's showing. The watch has been extended well into Wednesday, and with that the area effected has moved further south, and as you can see on the note on the screen, could be extended for a longer period. The mountains are more clearly in the snow and we are more clearly in the POTENTIAL (please don't elaborate it beyond that until a warning is issued)for a mix of sleet and freezing rain.

I suppose the thing that bothers me the most about this setup is the potential for loss of life via disruption in utility (specifically power) service. Wet snow is bad enough, ice is just flat out deadly. We have been blessed to have firewood by someone very special, but many folks won't be prepared for this one. The elderly and infants are the ones I worry about the most. When dad was a preacher in Spring Garden Al I remember it got down real real cold one night and we were awoken the next morning by a knocking at the door. Wasn't anybody living that close to us, but the next house a quarter mile down the road or so from the parsonage had a young couple living in it. It was a really really old house that you could almost see through and they didn't have heat that night nor means for a fire. They wanted dad to come check on their new baby. Old man winter was cruel to that family as that little one didn't make it through the night. Same with the elderly. If this freezing rain thing starts, make sure you know who they are around you and that they can be cared for if the power goes out.
At least with stinkin tornado's I have a semi-idea of where and when, and it happens quick. Freezing to death ain't no way for anyone to go. Take care of your neighbors if you are able.

Dang it. Thanks for the update Hugh. I plan on being prepared, in order to help my boys at work. I hate it for those that aren't equipped to handle it.
