Wish I had video'd this from when Dutchman taught us back at the first DOG up in Gods country, but I didn't. But here's a decent video of what you use it for and how to make it. Best thing I ever learned for using with my flint and steel.

Altoid cans work well for making char cloth.

Altoid cans work well for making char cloth. gonna have to save a few for the next gathering I make, so we can make some....Would be a neat idea to learn... Just make sure it's a 100% cotton t-shirt you use. Those 50/50 blends make a mess in your char-cloth tin. I'd start with about 2in. x 2in. squares of cotton cloth too, and scatter them around in the tin, don't stack them tight. It doesn't take but a few, and they last a long time if you can keep them in a water tight container after the fact. OH!!!! very important, keep your flint and striker separate from your char-cloth when storing for totin around. Just sayin.
