Looking like we'll get a repeat of the low temps again next week. Make sure all of your favorite pets and humans are prepared and protected from it. I'll post a map a little later.

ROUGHLY how low are we talking? Hopefully not a repeat of this weeks weather. The first blue line (540) is actually 0°C = 32°F, every blue line behind it is a 10 degree (C) drop in temperature.

Then you look at this map and it ain't having none of it, and they're both 12z gfs runs. Go figure.

Expecting to see extreme N. Ga (high elevations) to see snow tomorrow night into Wednesday. There still isn't resolution between the models of just how deep the cold air will go, but the snow for the higher elevations of the mountains is pretty much a fix. It'd be a good time to get up on Hawk mountain about FD Merrill or up on the Bald, or AT if you wanna see some of the white stuff.

48 hours out or less and the models are congruent. The first blue line is 0°C=32°f the second blue line is -10°C=14°f and all that green stuff in between the two is moisture, in this case that would be snow. Same here, except you are looking at pressure lines / isobars, and the 540 line is where liquid precip coming out of the sky changes to a frozen type (snow, sleet etc.) the lower the pressure number the greater the chance of winter precip due to lower pressure gradients relative to sea level, relative to geographic elevation blah blah blah.

Back to the craziness. Some models backing out but this forecast is sticking with some sort of winter event in N. Ga. over the next couple of days.

Hello boys and girls.
Really impressed by the 11-15 day pattern. Looking at the blocking over Greenland and up over Alaska, it opens up the polar express to drive deep into the south and lock in. It has no where to go. The energy that will be rolling around the atmosphere will give rise to disturbances and hopefully one of those will pop a Low down in the gulf.
Models have been off and on with the Low popping out of the gulf. They have all been consistent with the cold driving south. That is a huge key to a good snow. It's how we rolled up on our big snow back in 2010-2011.
I am stoked about it. More to come later.

Maybe it will all be gone by then but looks like it will be cold!!!!!!!!!!! Well, looking 13 days out is at the very limits of fantasy-casting instead of forecasting. That being said, you are correct, the barn door on the north side of the building has not only been left open, it has been ripped off of its hinges and we are in for a couple weeks or more of just plain out nasty cold weather. Here is the GFS for the 29th. Not sure how viable your plans for the 30th would be were this to play out though. It's just too far away to say this will actually happen. But it is worth a "HOLY COW" !!!!!

Waitin on the new GFS models to finish running. The GEM (Canadian) has come more into alignment at the 240 hour (as far out as it goes) so we'll see if the GFS stays consistent with the insane cold blast and the funny white stuff in a couple of weeks.

Just for grins and giggles I went to the 15 day forecast on the AccuWeather sticker we plugged in at the top of the page. Seems they agree with some nasty weather shenanigans around the 29th or so of this month.

OK, this is just weird. On this mornings GFS model runs the entire system has just gone poof and the temps are way warm for the end of next week. I think somebody, whoever was inputting the parameters for the data run was sniffing glue or something. How do you go from across the board agreement on a major winter event for several day running to magically doing a 180 and having bermuda shorts and sun tan weather in just a run or two? Look at the last two maps I posted for the 29th, then look at this one. Totally off the wall insane turn around.

Where's DDD, he's suppose to be in here tellin y'all up in N. Ga. that you're gonna see a little flurry or two Monday night late into Tuesday. BTW, our high temp for Tuesday will happen around Midnight Monday night. If you like wind there's gonna be plenty of it on Tuesday, and it'll be totin a razors edge with it too.
