Anyone on here every finished any pine floors? The house I bought a couple of years ago has wall to wall heart of pine floors. Since they are 20+ yrs old I was thinking about redoing them myself but wasn't sure if this would be something I should try to tackle.

Stayed at the main lodge in "The Forest", an Norfolk Southern Plantation in South Carolina. It's quite an impressive hunting / fishing preserve, except we were there in the middle of the summer (donate your blood to the mosquitos season) They had all pine flooring in this lodge and it had to be swept and dry mopped. It was an oiled floor, not poly and looked incredible. They came in once a year and put a new application of oil on it and it was good to go for another year. Something I would consider if I had a pine floor. From what I was told, they used Tung Oil on it. You might want to google that one and see where it takes you.

If they are 1/2 inch or thicker you can sand using a industrial sander going with the grain ( if there was a stain on it,I would let a pro do it as some stains have some really bad stuff in it)....The other big issue is what is your plan to redo them, this will help determine how much time and $$ it will be to do the work...

I haven't researched this at all . I was under the impression that a clear poly finish was my only option.... Google time!

I will also add that the boards are not tongue and groove but 4 to 6 inches wide planks. They are also 3/4 inch thick and held down by square headed nails. It's a very cool look but just needs a fresh finish.
